| Hallowed Be Thy Name - Iron Maiden |

(Quicktime is Needed)
This is one of my favorite songs from another favorite metal band of mine, Iron Maiden. This is off the third Iron Maiden studio album, and was the first album for the second Iron Maiden vocalist, Bruce Dickinson (He went from 1982-1993, and then rejoined the band in 1999 and is their vocalist to this day, Thank God).
Anyway, the song is about a prisoner being sentenced to execution. He describes the array of emotions he feels as he nears his final moments. He finds it really difficult to accept his fate and wishes that this was all just a dream. In the end, he finally acceptsh is fate, perhaps it's because he is guilty of his crimes. The song refers to God a lot, and the prisoner speaks of him in a desperate and mocking tone, so he's basically implying that God will "save" him, even though he's committed whatever crime he's being hanged for, hence the line, "And though the end is near, I'm not sorry." He's going to "see the truth," which is supposed to be better than his life in prison, or anywhere on earth for that matter. "Hallowed Be Thy Name" is a line in the Christian prayer, the "Lord's Prayer/Our Father."

[Harris]
I'm waiting in my cold cell when the bell begins to chime Reflecting on my past life and it doesn't have much time 'Cause at 5 o'clock they take me to the Gallow's Pole The sands of time for me are running low
When the priest comes to read me the last rites I take a look through the bars at the last sights Of a world that has gone very wrong for me
Can it be there's been some sort of an error Hard to stop the surmounting terror Is it really the end not some crazy dream
Somebody please tell me that I'm dreaming It's not easy to stop from screaming But words escape me when I try to speak Tears they flow but why am I crying? After all am I not afraid of dying Don't believe that there never is an end
As the guards march me out to the courtyard Someone calls from a cell "God be with you" If there's a God then why has he let me die?
As I walk all my life drifts before me And though the end is near I'm not sorry Catch my soul 'cause it's willing to fly away
Mark my words believe my soul lives on Don't worry now that I have gone I've gone beyond to see the truth
When you know that your time is close at hand Maybe then you'll begin to understand Life down there is just a strange illusion
Yeah, yeah, yeah, Hallowed be Thy name Yeah, yeah, yeah, Hallowed be Thy name
